Malawi celebrates National Day Expo 2020 Dubai

On 20th of November, The Republic of Malawi celebrated it’s Expo 2020 National Day at the Al Wasl Square, with a host of dignitaries in attendance and a school of Malawian’s watching on in great jubilation.

Malawi marked the day with enthralling traditional dances and singing, as the Al Wasl stage rang aloud to the beating drums and ululation of Malawi’s diaspora community.

Attending the event was His Excellency, Dr. Saulos Chilima, the Vice President of the Republic of Malawi. He was received by His Excellency, Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai.

Vice President Chilima said that he was greatful to the United Arab Emirates for organising such a great event and refered to his native land as the land of untapped opportunities waiting to be explored, he said the country prides herself as a peaceful and welcoming environment and a home of ceaseless investment opportunities.

“I want to assure everyone that Malawi is ready to work in the commercial sector and also welcome visitors to enjoy our vibrant culture” he remarked.

Sheikh Nahyan spoke about the flourishing diplomatic and economic relations, further elaborating that the UAE is open to cooperation in several fields such as education, innovation, communication technology, information, and investment.

“The UAE and Malawi share thriving diplomatic and economic relations, which have culminated in the UAE being one of Malawi’s top import partners. Given that the UAE has been credited for being one of the fastest developing countries in the world, we are optimistic about opportunities for collaboration with Malawi on matters that are of common importance to our two countries, such as education, investment, ICT, and innovation, and we hope to utilise this Expo as a platform to accelerate this” said UAE’s Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence.

At a media briefing, Vice President Chilima unpacked more on his nation’s untapped potential, setting the tone for Malawi’s intentions at Expo 20210 Dubai.

“Malawi is a land of untapped opportunities waiting to be explored. Malawi prides herself on beautiful landscapes and abundant natural resources, a hard-working and trainable workforce, a peaceful and welcoming environment, a strong judicial system, and ceaseless investment and trade opportunities,”

“I would like to assure everyone that Malawi is ready to do business and also to welcome investors and visitors to enjoy our vibrant culture and experience our beautiful lake and wildlife. We are the warm heart of Africa” he concluded.

Malawi’s pavilion is located in the Opportunity District and visitors will have the chance to try out a range of local products from Malawi and travel through the beautiful landscapes of the country via interactive displays. It serves as a hub for tourism.
